I didn't take notes so these comments are going to be a tad= lacking in detail (sorry -- feel free to augment them). We were pooled with Long Beach, Potted Plants, High Fives (west LA?), and= LagunaTicks; definitely the tougher of the two B divison pools. We started= with a good game against High Fives. After trading the lead a couple= times, we managed to up our intensity and win 14-12. Yes, we actually won= our first game (first time ever)! Our next game against Long Beach proved= to be a bitter disappointment. We lost our intensity and failed to execute= our offense. The final score was 13-4 i think. Everybody, including Long= Beach was a little surprised. Our game against Potted Plants suffered some= of the same problems. We spotted them some points letting them get out to= a 6-2 lead early on. After struggling to catch up we finally realized they= couldn't play against a zone. That gave us 4 or 5 unanswered points, but= we had given them too much of a lead and couldn't reel them back in. Final= was 13-10 (?). Last pool game against LagunaTicks was ours for the taking= and we took it. After a slightly slow start we cranked it up and beat them= 13-8 (?). =20 So, pool play ended with us, Potted Plants and High Fives at 2-2. The point= differential put us in a solid 3rd. This let us avoid an additional= seeding game the next day and matched us with our favorite opponents,= Burbank, for the quarters. As much as i dislike Burbank, the game was very good and ours to win (which,= to avoid undo anxiety, i will say now that we did not). They played their= patented lazy zone and there was enough wind to make it effective. Our= offense was slow to gel in the first couple points, but then we started= clicking. Our defense was great with notable efforts by Nils and Dale. = Since we gave away the first couple points, we spent most of the game= reeling them in. We finally gained the wind advantage near the end of the= game (12-11?) but gave it up after trading a few downwind points. Unable= to regain it, we lost 16-14 (?). Burbank went on to beat Long Beach in semis, and the finals ended up being= Burbank v. High Fives. Obviously, we could've been there. (yeah, i know= coulda, woulda, shoulda) Overall, i think we played well. We had some problem getting into the= offensive groove but we ran hard and played good D. We played clean games= without getting involved in any stupid calls (except for one minor one with= Burbank, but hey, it was Burbank). =20 Mike, hope you enjoyed your last tourny with us. Have fun in the northeast= (where i hear white stuff falls from the sky and they can't play disc= outside during parts of the year). =20 Mark Laffoon=20 wk: mxl@hnc.com hm: maya@laffoon.com =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D A day without sunshine is like ... night
